Italy Bans ChatGPT Over Privacy Concerns

Due to Privacy concerns, Italy has banned ChatGPT, a chatbot developed by OpenAI. The Italian Data Protection Authority (GPDP) announced the ban on March 31, 2023.

The GPDP said that ChatGPT collects and stores personal data without users’ consent and does not have adequate security measures to protect this data. The GPDP also said that ChatGPT is not transparent about how it uses personal data and that it does not provide users with an easy way to delete their data.

The ban on ChatGPT is the first time that a European country has banned a primary AI-powered chatbot. It is likely to significantly impact the development and use of AI in Italy and other European countries.

The GPDP’s decision to ban ChatGPT is based on several concerns. First, the GPDP said that ChatGPT collects and stores personal data without users’ consent. ChatGPT collects data from users when they interact with it, and it also collects data from other sources, such as the internet. This data includes users’ names, email addresses, and IP addresses. The GPDP said that ChatGPT does not have a legitimate reason to collect this data and does not provide users with an excellent way to opt out of data collection.
